Repair of the waterproofing of the Schuman metro and train station and the Loi complex.
Redevelopment of the roundabout from façade to façade into a level mixed zone:
- Modification of the surface in the continuity of the developments already carried out (Avenue d'Auderghem, small Rue de la Loi, Esplanade);
- Installation of security devices;
- Development of a shared space with planting containers, benches and a new lane for buses.
These works are executed at the same time as the work in progress on the side of the rue de la Loi, opposite the European Council.
Practicalities
During the works
At the launch of this new phase, the new mobility plan around and in the streets adjacent to the Schuman roundabout will come into force. As a result, new signage will be introduced.
Motorists coming from Avenue de Cortenbergh and the E40 motorway will have to use Rue Archimède and the side of Rue de la Loi. Only authorised vehicles will have access to the work zone at the Schuman roundabout during the works.
A diversion will be set up via avenue de la Joyeuse Entrée for vehicles over 3.5T, pending reinforcement work on the side of rue de la Loi by Bruxelles Mobilité.
Car and bicycle traffic is prohibited on the side of Rue de la Loi alongside the buildings of the Council of the EU (odd side). Access to buildings from Rue Froissart and Chaussée d'Etterbeek is not impacted. Temporary access to the Residence Palace from the exit of the Loi tunnel is maintained until the end of the work.
Rue Froissart will be turned into a cul-de-sac. The section between Rue Juste Lipse and the Schuman roundabout will only be accessible to local traffic and cyclists. Avenue d'Auderghem will also be made a cul-de-sac. Rue Breydel remains accessible from Avenue d'Auderghem. The section between Rue Breydel and the Schuman roundabout will only be accessible to local traffic and cyclists.
Waste collection points will be organised at the top of Rue Froissart and at the corner of Avenue d'Auderghem with Rue Breydel.
The garages remain accessible to local residents. Shops also remain accessible. Pedestrian and cyclist traffic is maintained on the sidewalk on the side of the buildings.
STIB bus lines 12, 21, 56, 60 and 79 continue to be diverted via Maelbeek station.
At the end of the work
Motorists coming from Avenue de Cortenbergh and the E40 motorway will be able to take Rue Archimède and the side of Rue de la Loi.
The connection between the districts located to the north and south of the roundabout will only be possible for motorists via Avenue de la Joyeuse Entrée, which has been converted into a two-way cycle street.
