Conservatory: ceci n'est pas un trou ... they're tests

25 septembre 2019 -

The tests for the restoration of the Conservatory have left several marks on the building. Find out here what tests were performed and their objectives.

The ceiling did not fall down (at least not this one) but it was exposed to reveal its structure. Objective: measure the dimensions of each beam to define the bearing capacity of the entire floor.

Areas of the façade cladding were exposed. Objective: carry out the Karsten pipe test on façade stones to measure their water absorption rate. The results will allow us to better understand the condition of the bricks and establish if specific treatment is necessary.

The paint was deliberately chipped off for stratigraphic analysis. Objective: find the different paint colours applied to the wall over the decades. The results will allow us to understand the evolution of the polychromy and make the right colour choices during the restoration.

A hole for accessing the existing foundation was made in the courtyard. Objective: check the condition and depth of the foundations. It has been backfilled with sand to keep it easily accessible if further testing is required.
