Conservatory: collaborating for a better result
In April and May, valuable partnerships were set up for the Royal Conservatory of Brussels restoration project.
The management of the Conservatories (KCB-CrB), the design office and Beliris met every week for two months to develop the preliminary project. Their goal: better understand the functioning and needs of the institutions. They did this by refining the links between functions, spaces and heritage, always with particular attention to acoustics, which are essential to the project.
In parallel, we held four workshops with the teams of the Royal Commission for Monuments and Sites (CRMS), the Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DPC) and Urban Planning to analyse the aspects related to heritage. By illustrating and discussing the options under consideration, we guaranteed constructive dialogue, which allowed for the combination of contemporary interventions and existing heritage in this new phase of the Conservatory's life.
Various aspects of the project were covered, including:
- the large concert hall and its polychrome to be restored,
- the houses on Rue aux Laines whose particular typologies will be respected,
- new performance halls where the acoustics are the main focus,
- the interventions made to the interior gardens, the new monumental staircase and, of course, the interactions between the project and the neighbouring plots.
The preliminary project is therefore well underway, as part of an effective and constructive collaboration. This emblematic project deserves to progress dynamically and Beliris and its partners are delighted to be involved in this high-value-added project.
